Austin TX noise rockers ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead are set to release their new studio album, Century Of Self, on February 17th.  The album will be the band's first since their split with former label Interscope.

I recently had the opportunity to do interview the band's drummer Jason Reece and I asked him what fans could expect from Century Of Self.  He called the record: "A gracefully bombastic head trip in to the history of our many journeys. This is a historical account of our tumultuous lives in this beautifully fucked world."

From the opening chords of the sprawling instrumental "Giants Causeway",Century Of Self is a journey through realms of myth and legend.  Images of medieval fantasy clash with some of the most progressive indie rock today.

As one would expect from Trail Of Dead most of the tracks on the record are frenzied affairs such as the cacophonous "Far Pavilions".  "Halcyon Days" sounds like a church sermon in Hell, while "Ascending" is two raucous tracks layered atop one another.

The exception is the understated "Pictures of an Only Child".

A pair of tracks, the anthemic "Bells of Creation" and the soaring "Inland Sea", were featured on the band's 2008 EP Festival Thyme.  Both are strong numbers that warrant repeating here.

Century Of Self is like a trip to a Renaissance Fair...where a punk show breaks out.
