Daniel Lenz fits squarely in the big beat side of electronica. On some tracks you'd swear you were listening to Prodigy or even Crystal Method back in the heyday of electronica. Check out the opening track of his solo debut Stuck In A Dream "Do It Again" and swap out that for "I guess I didn't know" and you have Crystal Method. I like how Lenz incorporates lyrics and vocalists in his music. "Check It Out" has a wonderful female vocalist helping out this strong big beat rhythm. On the title track Daniel heads a little darker, thus sounding like Prodigy. I really like the trance vibe he gets going on "Turn Around", very addictive. On the song, "Push The Tempo" Lenz dabbles a bit in a hip hop style with decent results.
Sure, there may be room for more music like this. And Daniel Lenz is damn good at this type of music but it does tend to feel dated. Had Stuck In A Dream come out 10 years ago he would have been a chart topper. But then again, a new Prodigy this year? There just may be hope for Daniel.
