Novalima is a group formed from former high-school friends from Lima. The four founders went on to live in different parts of the world but thanks to modern technology the group was still able to practice their art by emailing songs back and forth to each other, enabling collaboration. Their self-titled album from 2002 went on to exceed their expectations. They went on to follow up that album with an even more impressive album called Afro in 2006.

It's time for the next chapter in Novalima's career. All the members have since relocated back to Lima, Peru and have expanded to include other local musicians. Coba Coba is their new album and they have picked up distribution from acclaimed world label Cumbancha. The music is so energetic and cross genre that people from all over the world, all cultures and music backgrounds will find something to sink their teeth into. The group integrates much more than just their Afro-Peruvian heritage into their music. They use dub, electronics and pop to breach the musical divide. If you listen to the song "Kumana" you might mistake it for a Thievery Corporation project. Then the next track, "Yo Voy", integrates a great dancy beat as well.

Oh my, if you don't start dancing or at least tapping your foot to "Libertad" we had better check for a pulse. It's one of the most energetic and uplifting world beat song I have heard for years.

It's bands like Novalima, bands who bridge musical divides, that need to be recognized and given a chance to make changes. The type of music that just evokes good times, dancing and merriment.
