RecommendIt seems as though cEvin Key's main purpose in his Download project is not to pursue his industrial tendencies but to seek out more atmospheric expansive soundscapes. With Effector being the third album on his former band, Skinny Puppy's, old label Nettwerk. cEVIN's longtime collaborator, Phil Western, joins him on this album. They manage to succede at creating quite a listenable album even without the use of a vocalist. Sound effects pop in all directions keeping you open to fresh sounds and tweaking your aural senses. Some tracks groove ("Chrysanthemum") while others are content at swirling around, not really going anywhere (Carrier Tone"). Overall Effector provides the most accessible Download album to date.
