Here's an interesting idea, an atmospheric electronic act decides to do a concept album around the Vietnam war. The Reel Banditos is a duo consisting of Ernesto Diablo and Butch Loco and their Vietnam War concept album Indochina, the duo's second album, should be heralded as a triumph. The more you listen to this instrumental album, the more elements get pulled out.
Songs such as "The Cu Chi Tunnels" are so mindblowing that it makes up for any weak moments you might find elsewhere. The duo manages to get quite a lot of energy into a lot of these tracks. Some of them are quite atmospheric as well like "The Continental" but for the most part there is a defined dancey beat taking you through the tropical samples they use. Even on "TET" where they use some bombs dropping to set the darker tone for the rest of the track it just adds to the depth of the album.
Really, take away the idea that this is based around the war, it's actually really good electronica music. The Reel Banditos are a talented duo that should get some well deserved exposure with Indochina.
