Here is a genuine country album for you. The Cosmic American Derelicts have been together for about 10 years, playing all over the New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia areas to adoring fans, calling New Jersey home. Songs From The Homestead is their third full-length album and mostly an upbeat country album that shows some classic honky tonk as well as some forward thinking country as well. The band obviously takes influence from older acts like The Flying Burrito Brothers Band but still manages to take today's music to heart when writing their own songs.
There are 9 tracks on Songs From The Homestead and they are quite diverse in the country/roots side of things. They range from rocking tracks such as the opening "Sleepwalkin' Killer", to nice, gentle ballads like "Bedside".
Some of the songs were a little weak like "Dollar Bill Blues". It just seemed like the band was just going through the motions on this one, no heart into the delivery. For the most part, the songs are quality but it feels like there might be some disconnect with the band.
The only other improvement I think the Cosmic American Derelicts could do on Songs From The Homestead is work on the production a bit more. You can hear too much background noises and such throughout the album. But this is a decent album, one that should please their current fanbase and help gain new ones in the same measure.
