Knox Bronson is an artist who is located on the west coast of the USA. He has released music before but never as Knox Bronson. Pop Down The Years is his first solo album. Upon first listen you may get lost along the way but don't stray too far off the path because Pop Down The Years has some great songwriting and wonderful production to enjoy.

Pop Down The Years starts out with quite a simple electronic track called "Hey Little Earthgirl" that has a driving beat and quite accessible lyrics fed through some sort of vocal distortion. Next up you get the genuine Knox. On "Old Man Cold Man" you get Joy Division's Ian Curtis filtered through David Bowie's Earthling era. It's a wonderfully strange ideal and damn if it doesn't work. He follows Bowie's vocal emulation with "3 Seconds Before Maia Smiled". On "Bordertown" Bronson relies on electronics to set the mood. Doing so brings a lot more energy to his music. This is one of my favorite tracks.

Then on the track "Stay" we end up with something almost completely different. It's an etheral electronic song with Knox's voice quite distorted. It makes for a nice break in his Bowie-like vocals.

Overall, Pop Down The Years is quite a pleasurable listen. Knox doesn't want to change the world or create revolutionary music. He just wants to create a soundtrack for those willing to take it. So if you do enjoy the gentle vocals of David Bowie, do check out Knox Bronson's debut album Pop Down The Years. It's a great mellow pop album with touches of electronics to it.
