Daft Punk, Justice, Chromeo. These are just a few of the myriad artists specializing in electronic music whose irresistibly danceable beats have been hitting it big with the indie crowd. The Polish Ambassador has a healthy shot at being a future addition to that list. With a smooth electronic style and a bizarrely detailed science fictional biography to accompany the music, The Polish Ambassador presents himself as an extraterrestrial being made to spread his brand of electronica to the masses.
As a self-described groove generator and asexual cyborg, The Polish Ambassador incorporates his sci-fi flavor with equally futuristic beats. True to his proclamation, The Polish Ambassador does indeed generate the grooves. The classic techno beats layered with countless synthesizer melodies construct a sound that is at once straightforward and intriguing. Rather than hurling heavy bass and twisted glitches like many of his fellow electronica artists, the Polish Ambassador focuses on light, and at times even sunny, melodies. The majority of the tracks are surprisingly danceable and catchy, however, despite this lack of wall-shaking, rave-inducing beats. Without the dark and distorted beats to hammer their aural senses, some listeners may find Diplomatic Immunity redundant and insipid. Still, for fans of electronica that is simultaneously urban chic and fun, this cyborg is here to indulge all of their musical cravings.
