If ever a man likes to tinker with other's creations it's Mark Kozelek. He is a skilled songwriter in his own right but can put a slant on others outputs that can have them viewed in an often more favourable light...think AC/DC and how their songs could be transformed into folk rock/americana or how Modest Mouses often scratchy scripts could be described as wistful. Not everything on here is a success but everything from the sleep inducing Bedtime Lullaby (sleep inducing is a compliment here) and a delicate take on one of my all-time faves Husker Du's Celebrated Summer make for a pleasant if slightly short sonic experience. His take on BPB's New Partner and Low's Lazy also deserve a creditable mention. He's put out a lot this year (and I've got it all) so here's to 2009 and watch your backs The Koz is back to cover you in glory (ouch)

Any Sun Kil Moon or Red House Painters fans out there? Any of you heard the new Kozelek album? Sounds like a lot of great cover songs.
