You would never believe the luck that the Hangmen have had in their long and laborious career. They were picked up by Capitol back in the late 80’s but it actually lacked the live energy that this band had and sales were lacklustre so they were subsequently dropped. In the early 90;s the band was scooped up by Geffen, delivered an album but never released it and the Hangmen were once again without a label. Brian Small kept going even without a label. He cleaned up his drug habit and were ready to go at it again in 2000,. They secured a deal with Acetate records and Metalic I.O.U. hit the streets. To celebrate their success, the Hangmen hit the road and recorded this album, Blood on the Toes of our Boots. Small invited the Supersucker’s Eddie Spaghetti to join in on “Coal Mine. This is what the Hangmen needed to do all the way along. Their energy on stage is all over this release (probably because they’re on stage). Their music is very similar to that of the Supersuckers but when you look back at the history of the Hangmen you start to get the impression that they are the originators. Check this one out.
