How would you approach making a sophomore album, after the key players in what made your debut album so popular left your band? That is the dilemma that Dance Gavin Dance had to face when creating this new album. There was much speculation about if new vocalist, Kurt Travis, could fill the shoes of former front man Jonny Craig left the band. The news of the Jonny Craig departure upset many fans, leading them to believe the band would never be the same.
The self-titled album from Dance Gavin Dance is spectacular. They have clearly headed in a completely different direction from what they had been doing before with Downtown Battle Mountain. The album seems to have a more experimental/progressive sort of feel to it. The album starts off with the track Alex English, which sort of sets the tone for the rest of the album, preparing you for what's to come next. The track shows off some of Kurt Travis' vocal talents in this song, hitting higher notes with ease. The song Me And Zoloft Get Along Just Fine is another fantastic track off of the album. The lyrics are a little bit pointless sounding, but the chorus makes up for the weird verses. Each track of this self titled album seems to contain the perfect blend of singing and screaming within the music.
This sophomore album is quite impressive. Even with all of the pressure of having to make an album as good as or greater than Downtown Battle Mountain. But for some reason, I don't Dance Gavin Dance was worried about the hype about needing to make a better album. I think that they just decided to take a chance and do what they enjoyed the most and made the music that they wanted to make. While they did take quite a chance with the direction they went in, they succeeded in creating a great album.

I agree. The singing between Kurt and Nic went together so well, and made that song one of the best on the album. Honestly, Uneasy Hearts Weigh The Most and Me and Zolof Get Along Just Fine are the two tracks that made me want to purchase this album

It's hard to compete with an album like Downtown Battle Mountain. Although, there were some good tracks on this album. Uneasy Hearts Weigh The Most was the standout track to me. Nic Newsham from Gatsby's American Dream made this song stand above the rest.
