Start Here is a beautiful album. Believe it or not though it is the first full-length by The Gloria Record. They state that the second EP’s, A Lull In Traffic, main purpose was to cleanse what the band had been doing and playing up to that point and to start brand new. That proves to be a great idea as Start Here is one of the finest low-key emo albums that I have ever witnessed. The album ebbs and flows nicely and maintains a very epic feel to it much like a Mercury Rev album. There are songs that put an immediate smile on your face and others that evoke a bit of a darker emotion. Tracks merge almost indistiguished from one to the other and one cannot help but feel that Start Here was meant to be listened to from beginning to end. Now that The Gloria Record has gotten rid of all the cobwebs in their songwriting and started anew, Start Here is a logical and very impressive new beginning. I dare you to listen to “Good Morning, Providence and not get goosebumps.
