Oh my, I wasn't expecting this. I was quite excited for another Canadian band to be signed to Metal Blade. This time around it is Vancouver's Bison B.C.. The BC was added to avoid confusion and legal issues with other bands with the same name. Once metal fans get a load of what this metal band has to offer the other Bison's will quickly drop away as less relative. Quiet Earth is actually the band's sophomore effort but in every sense it is the start of global domination for this powerhouse.

The epic "Wendigo Pt. 1 (Quest For Fire)" is about all you need to convince any naysayers about Bison's power. It starts off with strings before the crushing onslaught of guitars, drums and vocals comes to macerate your eardrums. The awesomely powerful and cleverly titled "These Are My Dress Clothes" was just exhilarating. Even on the track "Medication" they get into a bit of a slower groove with it and keep it going strong.

Honestly, Quiet Earth is one of the best albums I wasn't expecting this year. It came out of nowhere. I had never heard of Bison BC or listened to their music. This is a far cry from where lead singer James Farwell's previous punk band, S.T.R.E.E.T.S., was. So much better. It's been such a great year for metal releases this year. Can there be any more coming out to top the ones I've already heard?
