I find it amazing that Koufax is still around. They've been on Doghouse Records, made the move to the more prominent Vagrant, only to end up back on Doghouse. Strugglers is their latest effort and second since returning to Doghouse. Their material has been very consistent since their early Doghouse EP, and it was time to check in once again. Struggers is one of those albums that I could fall for given many repeated listens. It's got the charm and pop mastery. It's got wonderful vocals from Robert Suchan. He's reminding me more and more of Britt Daniels of Spoon and some of the song arrangements could be on a lost Spoon album. I really like the diversity Koufax presents on Strugglers. On "California Taught Us Well" they use a bit of cha cha or bossanova flavor. The opening band cranks out with a good sax bit and a driving beat, again sounding like something Spoon might have arranged. "Name Of Love" has a bit of The Strokes sound in it.

With that being said, what else do you need to know? If you like indie pop then Strugglers will sit nicely with you. Otherwise you may not find anything to grasp onto here.
