This Kiwi based group with the same name as a certain Clash song (they insist that it isn't the reason they chose it) is getting ready to take on the international music scene. With a few top 20 songs back home in New Zealand, Garageland plays the type of pop that you don't really notice at first but after allowing them to creep into your cerebrum, your hooked. They have already garnered rave reviews from the critical British press, NME and Melody Maker and they aim to do the same in the US. Take my word for it, one listen is not near enough. Garageland's Do What You Want takes a bit of a retro approach to pop, borrowing from everyone from the Pixies to fellow Kiwis, The Bats. They can stir it up a bit ("Jean") but for the most part Garageland are happy going at their own pace. You can buy the cd at their labels website for a cheap $6.99.
