Now this is melodic punk to give some props to! Static Radio NJ kick out short, snotty, angry punk that doesn't water down the genre by being slick or ruin good riffs with wimpy refrains. "An Evening of Bad Decisions" might be radio-friendly in spots, but for once, that is a good thing.
Packing a large punch into just about a half hour of music, the band rip through a set that is fast , jagged, and full of sing-alongs. The anthemic "Fin" and "Bothered" set the bar high, but the band is inspired throughout, even on tamer fare like "Green Hoodie." What saves even that from being just an exercise in rote pop-punk is the attitude and passion. This is a real punk band, and fuck you if you can't take the fact that they are melodic too. They are often compared to bands like Kid Dynamite, but one spin of this will prove to you that they are the real thing.
Static Radio NJ have that raw power that pays homage to the past without settling for straight on imitation. "An Evening of Bad Decisions" is a full-length that backs up the promise of their prior EP and then some. This is record blends the best of the old and new without falling into the many traps of such an attempt better than most such records out there.
