This is an album that you really have to be in the mood for. The quirkiness of Magnetic Fields radiates over to Stephin Merritt’s and Claudia Gonson’s Future Bible Heroes project. It is synth rock at it’s finest. In fact if Eternal Youth came out 20 years ago they would have been rock stars. This time around they use Claudia Gonson’s vocals exclusively throughout the album and it really works. She has a voice like the girl from Wild Strawberries. A soft spoken but still firm enough to give you a feeling of confidence. Christopher Ewen takes on the task of arranging these pretty little songs but Stephin takes songwriting credits (along wth Ewen). The album holds together nicely but like I said, you have to be in the mood for it otherwise it can prove to be annoying. I found that the more I listened to Future Bible Heroes, the more I appreciated what they were doing. It’s really like nothing else that’s on the market right now.
