Kings Of Leon impress me once more. And this time around I wasn't even ready to be impressed. I felt as if the band was in a holding pattern but with Only By The Night they get my guilty pleasure of 2008 award. You have to admit that "Crawl" is an ever impressive big slab of rock. It's the sort of song that is demanding an arena to be played in. And who knows, if Kings of Leon keep up this pattern the arenas are right around the corner. 

Yes, tracks like "Sex On Fire" just get better with every listen. This song has a fun groove to it. If you still think of Kings Of Leon and harbingers of southern rock then you need to revisit the Followill brothers + cousin. Sure, they still have that sort of roots feel but there is so much more to their sound now a days. The even get all soft on us with "Use Somebody", a real down home ballad.

Only By The Night is a great collection of songs that get juicier with every listen proving that the Kings of Leon have gone through their adolescence and become mature adults creating some wonderful pop/rock music that should be heard by the masses. Don't be scared of these guys and don't be ashamed of declaring your love for these boys.

It's weird to rate this album on this site now because it has become so popular, but it still has some really great tracks that haven't been on the radio. The opener Closer has a unique sound for them and really stands out on the album. Tracks like 17 and Be Somebody are great classic rockers. And the Cold Desert is a poweful ballad type. I forget what I gave this album originally because I did rate it, but didn't review it. It's either 9 or 10. I'll se after I write this!

BTW Dennis, ya jinxed these guys! They cant go to amajor metropolitan without playing the local Hockey arena. IT sucks, cause the prices of tix have gone just plain wrong, but I'm happy for them regardless.

Ha, yeah. These guys have sure gotten better over the years. If you haven't heard Kings Of Leon then do give Only By The Night a shot. It's a really good mainstream album.

Can't believe how little this album has gotten attention. I seriously made a mistake for most of 2008 glancing by this disc. Fantastic, should've been on my top ten for this year. Its amazing how much these guys have embraced a maturation process. Great review Dennis..thanks for the suggestion what five years ago?
