Astralingua's EP Contact is, if anything, an experience. Composer and producer Joseph Andrew Thompson blends world music and American influences for a psychadelic effect. The world fusion appears immediately in the opening track "The Landing," which introduces a handful of instruments which is to be used throughout the rest of the album. The instruments used range from the Spanish guitar to the accordian, all of which leave a lasting impression.

Yet the project strays from becoming too exotic by incorporating American folk vibes into songs such as "No One," which is further notable for the unusual sounds that is used for effect. "This Song" features very airy vocals, resulting in a drifting and dreamlike effect upon listeners. "Seattle Rain" is probably the most 'Western' track in the EP, yet it pales in comparison with every other song that delivers a great ethnic blend of influences. Then there are tracks such as "Icaro," which demonstrates a terrific transition from strings to winds instruments. Finally, "Contact," running the longest out of all the songs, uses the time to make layers starting from a very wild atmosphere and progressing with a melody and drums.

Thompson shows true appreciation for world music through Contact. The album is eclectic, smooth, and very well-layered. Contact certainly makes listening to music a dreamlike experience as it unravels itself into quite a delight.
