I only feel compelled to write this review because a promotion company sent me Saving Abel. This is the sort of music that I abhor. Seriously, if you've heard the likes of 3 Doors Down or Nickleback then Saving Abel will seem to familiar. I did catch myself tapping my foot from time to time but after following the rock radio formula after this long one has to have the hook factor down pat. There really isn't anything new that Saving Abel brings to the table with their self-titled debut. Sure, they have some catchy songs like "In God's Eyes" but really, this things been done so many times that you have to nail it in order to be even taken seriously. "Sailed Away" could be from any of the bands mentioned over there in the Try If You Like. "It's all just the same" Jared Weeks sings in that track and if I had my choice I would indeed board the ship and get far away.
That's all I have for you, Saving Abel. Where's Cain when you need him?

This one ended up on my recommendations list because I used to be and still sorta am a fan of both 3 Doors Down (haven't bothered with them since their debut, which I really enjoyed then) and Fuel (used to be pretty decent). Had a go at their myspace songs even though the review above had me thinking otherwise, and I pretty much have to agree. Go there, listen to one of the songs and then read this little tidbit:
"With influences including Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Seattle sound, Johnny Cash, and AC/DCs Angus Young, Null explains that Saving Abel has been compared to the Black Crowes, Nickelback, 3 Doors Down, even Incubus--everyone seems to hear what they want in us. Were just trying to connect with people. Adds Weeks: And were going to keep doing what we do until they dont want to hear it no more!"
Where do I sign up for this last list? I can't believe people are still eating shit like this up considering how much variety and actual honest music exists out there. All you get here is recycled Nickelback bullshit that you can feel less guilty for liking because the name is different. Product-minded 'music' like this doesn't really belong anywhere but in the most simple and care-free music collections. The kind of collections you don't call collections.
