You Have No Idea What You're Getting Yourself Into attempts to bring together the choral chants of The Rapture and the characteristic drums and bass of Death From Above 1979. Although the lyrics are mediocre (the band’s single "Let’s Make Out" is straightforward and borderline-annoyingly repetitive), the synthesizer-heavy music is just begging you to stomp about the floor despite what is being screamed through the speakers. The album in its entirety offers a sense of versatility; it can find its place in rotation at the hip nightclubs, or it can give the less dance-prone folks something to headbang about.
Nonetheless, the album is a few steps behind from finding its spot in the shelves with indie-dance-rock classics. The band set very high standards but did not quite meet them; perhaps they aimed too high to be ranked among the likes of the aforementioned Rapture and DFA 1979 and the currently successful dance act Justice. Maybe someday DIOY,Y? will see some similar success when the hybrid of digital drums and robotic vocals are used at just a satiating minimum.
