What Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra began on Liberation Afrobeat they continue on quite nicely with Talkatif, their sophomore album with Ninja Tune Records. While Talkatif may not be the ideal party music, most of it will go right over peoples heads, it is a great album for grooving on a Sunday afternoon. This Brooklyn based collective knows how to play and make funky music. By the time you reach “War Is A Crime you will be so tired from shaking your booty. The group funks it up big time with their massive band and Antibalas just loves to see listeners heads bobbing. Fellow Afrobeat star Fela Kuti would be proud at how Antibalas holds up the Aftrobeat tradition so mightily. There is not only Afrobeat at play here. Antibalas ventures into latin, jazz, funk, and big dose of soul to make it even more infectious. Their energetic sound is hard not to enjoy with their big brass sound and very cool Hammond organ solos. Talkatif showcases Antibalas at its finest and shakes your rump in the process.
