This is what creation sounds like.
I couldn't begin to count how many times I've heard someone defend an album by saying that it takes several listens to be appreciated and understood. The acquired taste defense is a famous one. Here, however, nothing time tested is sure to apply.
To defend this album in the face of any critic may be useless - you either love to bathe in it or you can only betray your confusion by asking for its purpose. This album is an experiment, yes - but it is only music. Its purpose some may seek because it sounds so advanced. This, however, should delay none in listening - it is an experience in what you do not know. Forget the baggage that comes with any determination to understand it. Leave that to the Berklee nuts; your job is to be entertained.
And if you let yourself, entertained you shall be.
