Duotang - The Bright Side
Canada’s duo darlings, Duotang, have just released their third album. It is entitled The Bright Side and in all reality it is their strongest yet. If you are unfamiliar with Duotang, let me catch you up. Rod Slaughter and Sean Allum played in different bands and one night they decided to jam together, just the two of them. This was back in 1995 and in 1996 they played a show with Mint’s Smugglers and they signed to Mint Records. As soon as September 1996 they had an album ready for the masses and hit #2 on Canadian College Charts. In 1998 their second album came out entitle The Cons and the Pros and they reached #1 with it. Now, three years later, Duotang hit us with The Bright Side, another album bound for number one. Their songwriting has improved tremendously especially when compared to their debut. Even though the band is just a two piece (Drums and Bass) they are able to pull off a full sound. The only complaint with the Bright Side is the production side of things. Instead of bright and crisp, the sound is quiet and a bit fuzzy. Focusing on the songwriting though, Duotang have a chemistry that works.
