It's a travesty this band never got enough attention to be able to support themselves off their music. Brazil were truly unique and intelligent songwriters. "A Hostage and the Meaning of Life" is my favorite discovery of 2004. Originally I caught these guys opening for Coheed and Cambria in March 2004 (with Rainer Maria and Funeral For A Friend). Brazil's live show immediately pulled me in). Then I went to the Skate and Surf Festival and ran into the band. The truck carrying their merch was delayed so I had to revisit their booth a few hours later. Incredibly nice dudes. I was short a dollar for a shirt, but they gave it to me anyway. My friend picked up the album (this was a few days before the official release) and "A Hostage and the Meaning of Life" ended up the best original debut LP we heard all year.
