it's strange that an Album billed as Buck's more obscure and private work is probably one of his most acessible. I genuinely enjoyed this immensely. some really fresh and interesting takes on his usual output.
he seems to drift further from his hiphop breakbeat roots with every release in much the way Beck did after Odelay! This is a collection of epertly crafted songs with some exquisite live instrumentation.
"Heather Nights" and "Out of Focus" lean toward Tom Waits territory whereas "Kenndy Killed The Cat" sounds more like LCD Soundsystem or MC5, "Medley" could be a Yo La Tengo track such is the restraint from Buck these days. But despite all of these sounds and influences flying around this album all of the tracks still sound unmistakably Buck65.
Like a good wine he's improving and maturing with age.
