Where Myth Fades To Legend is the most I've ever been disappointed by an album. Alesana had unlimited potential after a solid debut, but it was all squandered in a matter of 1 year. Where Myth Fades To Legend is a giant mess, forcing songs to flow that have no business being on the same album. This is a perfect example of a sophomore slump. I can't tell you what exactly killed Alesana on this album. It could have been over ambition and a want to completely revolutionize screamo music, or plenty of good ideas with terrible execution. Whatever caused this, Where Myth Fades To Legend is painful to listen to not only as a journalist, but as a fan.
My biggest issue with WMFTL is the undisciplined use of screaming throughout every song. Unlike other bands who use screaming to accent songs at the best time, Alesana came to the conclusion that people wanted to listen to spastic screaming backed up by guitars playing repetitive riffs and equally spastic drumming. I get the troubling impression that each person recorded their respective pieces on different days, in different recording studios. There is no cohesiveness as a band in any respect on this album. Instead of WMFTL being 6 people acting as a single unit, it feels more like 6 different people trying to grab the spotlight for themselves.
This was the last thing Alesana needed. They proved so much with their debut, everything could have gone their way. Instead of having a worthy successor to On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax, we have a sad, misguided effort in Where Myth Fades To Legend. It will take a pretty amazing follow-up to erase the memory of this, which honestly pains me to say. The vocal stylings of Alesana were unique enough to separate themselves and rise above, but a lack of foresight doomed this voyage from the start. Fans should definitely stay away from this, as there is nothing to gain from putting yourself through this. Even fairly devoted fans of screamo should keep your distance from Where Myth Fades To Legend. It denigrates the very genre that was their ticket to fame.

That comment was just slightly premature, and I can see slight variations in their sound that I wasn't expecting. At least on the tracks I've heard, anyway. They're not that big, and scene as they are that has nothing to do with the music, at all. I hate it when some fans (and I know they exist, I've spoken to them personally) rave about a band because they fit some cliche bullshit little world they're either living in or wanting in on. I'm sorry, this site isn't for that type of person as long as I'm "working" here and if that person ever becomes our target audience, I'll gladly bow out. Disregard that rant if it doesn't apply to you; you know who you are, muahaha.

Ummmm i kind of dig this band. They are not hardcore by anymeans. i just like the sound. i dunno they aren't the greatest. the fact that half of this album was out to download on limewire like a year and a half ago sucks. i stopped downloading music last year and i still have someof this from like april of 2007. its okay to hate them i see why. they are rather scene. but i like the vocals. the screams are diffferent. there is nothing wrong with hating or loving them stop the nonsense and everyone love everyone

What exactly are you fans buying into? The fact that this sounds like about 10,000 other bands or is it the image? Because all you get from Alesana are formula-driven songs and that god-awful stupid emo look. They're either huge posers or totally interested in your dollar. Odds lean towards both. Don't let the street-teaming zombies fool you, ME'ers, this is not worth your time. You can find the same style done better many times over elsewhere.

My thesis remains: This band sucks and their fans are an embarrassment of the ages 13-15. And trust me they don't need any help. Have you seen their hair? Story-filled lyrics? Go listen to Anathallo and be moved by the tale of Japanese lore. Please, this is immature music being distributed by a terrible label. There I went there.

Onto the dick wipe that is Johnnyvirus. I never made a review dumb shit. It was a comment about how horrible this band really is. These guys sound like every other band trying to make it in the new "scene." the screams are pathetic, I have heard a 15 year old with better screams. Check them out, they're signed too. They are named Our Last Night. And i doubt to understand how my comment claims that I am against a certain type of music. I listen to all different sorts of genres. All my editorial reviews are on different sorts of artists from PLENTY of different genres. My comment was in no way biased. I streamed the album on AOL a couple of times and wrote my opinion about it. johnnyvirus, it seems that your infected with stupidity. Get your facts straight before you try to make another comment towards me.

What Dan said was a hundred percent true. It's not a grudge against the genre if the genre literally encompasses everything that is wrong with music, and transitively the youth, today. This band isn't good, it's generic shitcore at best. They've got the hair, they've got the catchy melodies with occasional screaming that doesn't contribute at all to the album unless of course they trying to make a bad album.. They've got the image. If Jeffree Star was a member of this band, my thesis would be utterly stunning. I'll repeat Dan's plea--don't buy this album. Save yourself the money. Buy Kiss Kiss record coming out this year.

I'm pretty sure he knows how to write a review.. since, you know, he's an editorial reviewer on this very site here.. I think he was just commenting on how the other reviews were going.. Anyway, why not write a negative review? A review is just your opinion of the music you listened to. If you hated it, then odds are your review is going to be negative. I don't really care for Alesana's music either. Just doesn't work for me.

are you serious? this band is absolutely terrible. there is nothing appealing about them. the vocals are absolutely terrible, it's hard enough to get through one track, let alone an entire album. my ears are in pain with every time some out of tune tone comes out of that mans mouth. pathetic. This album is garbage. i don't recommend it to anyone. save yourself the trouble.

Alesana is one of the best bands out in the scene right now. Alesana was the first band that really got me into the hardcore music. The way the singing and the screaming are mixed together with the music sounds amazing. I preorder there last cd and that preorder wasnt a mistake even thought it took exactly one month it was totally worth the wait for it. Where Myth Fades to Legend is a greatest cd ever after listening to it on aol.com I had to buy the cd. It was such a great cd every single song was amazing. I could listen to the entire cd without even skipping a track. I think everyone should buy the new Alesana cd its totally worth it even I'm buying the new cd so you show buy it too. So I give Where Myth Fades to Legend a 10/10

Alesana is one of those bands that everyone thinks of as just a band that sounds the same as every other starting band out there. But let me tell you, they are so wrong. This band has an immaculate taste for music. You can by the way their screaming and guitar riffs fit into the songs. I am not too into the "hardcore" bands, but this band totally proves the trash talking critics out there completely wrong.
It's an amazing album and I would encourage anyone to go buy it. Also go buy any albums at Fearless Records, because the albums I have gotten there have never gotten a bad review from me.
