1997 is not a typical band you would expect to come off of Victory Records. Their second full album is entitled On The Run. In this review there will be no comparing to the first album we will take this album for what it is and it will be judged on its own. 1997 surprised me quite a bit. I expected something a little superficial when I saw they were on Victory, I was wrong. With more in depth lyrics that you haven't heard from a band off Victory since Bayside or Taking Back Sunday it seems as if 1997 is poised to be "The Next Big Thing." Songs like "One Track Mind, Four Track Heart" and "4A.M. Conversation" show their diversity and the potential they still have to grow into. The vocal quality on this album is amazing. The delivery of the two vocalist(one being a man and the other a woman) is nothing short of impressive. On The Run is consistently good but only two tracks are really great. "Tennessee Song Pt. 2" and "On The Run" which are also the last two songs of the set. Both a change of pace from the rest and slightly more ambient. The vocals stay true to form and are easily the highlight of the album, being fresh and enjoyable. Lets get to the point. On The Run is a good album but it could have been much, much better. Having said that, 1997 has tons of potential and i look for them to do great things in the future.
