This album took a couple of listens. Desert City Soundtrack is one of those bands that is trying at times but respect has surfaced and I can honestly say that I enjoy this EP now. Piano is present on almost all of the tracks, which doesn’t sound that strange on the outside but when you are listening there are guitars wailing and drums crashing all over the damn place. Some tracks, like “Foglifter for instance, start out with a fairly non-assuming quiet piano riff and then the crashing cymbals and such move in to almost envelop the piano. It seems as though the piano is there to hold everything together. Tempos change all over the place so it’s not like you could dance to Contents of Distraction. If you don’t have patience for music then Desert City Soundtrack is definitely not for you but if you like to warm up to favorite albums, check in for the night and put Contents of Distraction on repeat. You should receive a warm welcome after the 4-5 listen. My favorite track is the leading screaming “What to do in case of fire.
