You may remember the name Tim Keegan from his days playing with Robyn Hitchcock and the Egyptians. Well, he and his group (rounded out by Chris Anderson, Lindsay Jamieson, and Jake Kyle) have released their proper sophomore album on Nettwerk entitled Too Late To Die Young. Don’t be surprised if you haven’t heard of them before you’re your not the only one but that is about to change. Departure Lounge basically had a fifth member in Kid Loco who helped arrange and produce this mellow and etheral affair. Kid Loco is able to add samples and some beats and still keep their sound organic and keep things down to earth. The songs stretch out in a good way; the way the sandy beaches do in Hawaii. Departure Lounge provide a very nice array of songs ranging from intrumentals to good Robyn Hitchcock style romps. When vocals are the order of the day, the harmonies are indeed glorious and well thought out. “Alone Again, And (I venture a guess that this must be a take on the Damned song “Alone Again, Or) features the vocals of ex-Cocteau Twin Simon Ramonde and the guitar playing of Robyn Hitchcock. Charmer Lisa O’Neill (from the sadly overlooked Sing Sing) lends her vocals to “Over The Side and “Animals on my Mind. This is indeed a brilliant album that is great for those late night work sessions (like this one).
