Well, well, well. here it is the album that baffled and confused so many people. originally meant to be released as an E.P. but the beatles felt that there was a lack of sales of E.P's in the american market so they added in some of their singles to create a full L.P. I'm caught in two minds in this album. there is so many good songs on it yet i can't figure out why i just can't make myself love it.
The album has so many good songs. One of my all time favorites "I am the Walrus", arguably the greatest single ever in " Strawberry Fields Forever" and the amazing " All you need is love". O.K the first side is a load of crap that you can only enjoy if you were deaf in one ear and couldn't hear in the other, but, i like it. I Like the catchy "your mother should", the stupid harmony in the chorus that will have you singing all day. Then there is the really cheesy "fool on the hill" that you know you shouldn't like but secretly on the inside you have a soft spot for it. I love the excellent vocals in " baby your a rich man" they really are great.
So by now you're thinking " oh he loves this album" but i still can't make myself fond of it. And i still don't know why not. how can you have an album full of #1 singles that you don't like. It makes no sense. I mean i mentioned some great songs above but there is more. "penny Lane", "Hello Goodbye". more songs on this album were #1's than not. But there is sense to my lunacy. to make an good album you can't just record a load of songs and put them on a disk. An album is much more than that. You have have good track order, make the album flow. Don't just have track 1 then track 2. make people want to listen to the whole album from start to finish. An album is an entity in itself. I wish this album was less of a collection of songs and more of.......an album.
