This was my "girly" recommendation for the month on my blogsite www.rockangelmusic.wordpress.com. Although honestly, its just good music.
The piano riffs on this CD are equally fun, catchy and well-written. I cant stop bobbing my head, singing along, and smiling&this CD may be solely responsible for turning me soft (because you know, Im so hardcore). Seriously though, the lyrics are well written, the melodies are addicting, and the singing is seductive. This band has come a long way from the days of Wine Red and sounds very polished and ready to make a splash in the music world. I definitely tend to like the songs with the female vocals rather than the male vocals, so the fact that there are only a few of those is just fine with me. Im not sure which song is my favorite yet, but Honey, Molasses, and Medicine Man could all be hit singles. Good job THS.

I was beyond excited to pick up The Hush Sound's new CD. I thought, that like the others, it would be a journey to someplace magical, innocent, and full of flavor. Turns out, our friends in THS had a different idea. While still as talented as they came with prior releases, THS created a poppy, radio-friendly version of themselves with "Goodbye Blues". The first 6 tracks are sang primarlily with Greta, the pianist, sharing none of the stage with co-vocalist Bob. There are unnecessary "ohs" and "ahs" filling gaps that otherwise would have been fine. My biggest issue with the new album - the lyrics. THS was a band that told stories; innocent, playful, sometimes haunting and mystical tales that drew a listener in and kept them warm. With Goodbye Blues, that has all changed, with lyrics now sounding simplistic and vague.
This is not to say that the music is not catchy and enjoyable, because damnit, it sure is. But leaving their enriching melodies behind, THS opted to have a more simplistic sound.
THS offers so many enriching and eloquent music that they deserve to be listened to and enjoyed thoroughly. But listen to the other albums to get that.
