This is a fantastic collection of folk and blues music that is to accompany John Cohen’s (New Lost City Ramblers) new book of photographs, There Is No Eye. This concept is quite original. The book is entirely photographs of musicians featured on Music For Photographs as well as many others. The 32-page booklet that comes with this compilation is a great preview to the book. Artists include Rev. Gary Davis, Muddy Waters, Bob Dylan (with a rare “Roll on John), Alice Gerrard, Hazel Dickens, Bill Monroe, Carter Stanley, Woody Guthrie, and John Cohen’s own New Lost City Ramblers. There is a great quote from the liner “Here together for the first and only time, some of my friends now gone forever, so that we remember, a little bit longer. Seems somewhat appropriate for this ingenious collection. You can buy the book at Amazon; There Is No Eye. My favorite track is Roscoe Holcomb’s rendition of “Man of Constant Sorrow. It really nails down the sound that Cohen is going for on Music For Photographs.
