Ahh, Emarosa, the band that former Dance Gavin Dance head man Johnny Craig now calls home. Unfortunatley, This Is Your Way Out was before good ole' Johnny joined. I say unfortunatley not because this EP is bad, actually it is the opposite. The reason for such a word choice is because after hearing this I am terrorized with anxiety for the album which will include Johnny. But for now Emarosa is simply another post-hardcore band (a very damn good one) with no Johnny Craig.
The seven songs that make up This Is Your Way Out are simply full of energy and amazing. Emarosa show they are not another band that is hopping on the post-hardcore band wagon. "I Am Waves" the first actual track of the EP, they scream out "Is this what you wanted?" My answer to them happens to be HELL YES! This album is exactly what I wanted. After three of the most well put together tracks I have heard from a post-hardcore act, Emarosa sticks in a melodic track dubbed "Breather". Which is an appropriately named and placed song, because the next two songs are going to ROCK YOUR WORLD! "Casablanca" is easily the best track on the album. Dramatic lyrics, hellish screams, and emotional vocals make-up what is the perfect song.
Emarosa is an incendiary band on their own. But with the addition of Johnny Craig there is simply no limit to what this band can accomplish. Emarosa has given me something to look forward to in the world of post-hardcore copy cat music. As far as This Is Your Way Out goes though, I believe the proper word would be stupified.
