RecommendLooking for a good fix of down-home blues? Look no further than Putumayo's recent Mississippi Blues collection. The gathered a bunch of Mississippi born and raised blues players who know the genre the best. Many of these artists ended up leaving the area when they were adults in order to establish a career in blues but their hearts always remained in the Mississippi area. Some of the artists include Big Bill Broonzy, Junior Wells, Luther Allison, Bobby Bland, and Chris Thomas King (from O, Brother Where Art Thou?). What Mississippi blues collection would be complete without Mississippi John Hurt. He is here with the brilliant "Make Me A Pallet On Your Floor". Putumayo also reaches to the region for their liner notes. Scott Jordan, a music editor in New Orleans was invited for this task and does a fine job. This is a great compilation even for blues novices.
