Jump Little Children truly make themselves undefinable in their debut album "Magazine." The album starts off the way you would expect any pop album to; quiet and acoustic. The first song isn't anything out of the ordinary but keeps you hooked enough to at least keep listening, which one will find is truly a mistake. The second track follows suit with the first but adds a bit of orchestra and once you've found yourself comfortably within the bounds of a quiet pop album, JLC's third track erupts in your face with a frenzy of alternative music resembling Beck but entirely too loud.
The album continues on this fluctuating roller coaster ride trying to figure out what genre they fit into until you realize you've been listening to the same hooks over and over during each song. Each song provides you with a decent and catchy riff/lyric to listen to but forces you to listen to it over and over until the album becomes entirely monotonous and boring.
If it wasn't for the fact that I am writing this review, I would have turned off this cd less than halfway through once I realized I would be listening to the same two songs until the discs finish. The bottom line--don't bother.
