Time for a tasty music nugget from the past. What better place to go digging than the division of Shanachie, Yazoo. Yazoo pulls a bunch of tracks from extremely rare old 78 RPM records which have been remasterd to produce the best possible quality. The neat thing with recordings such as Cornshucker's Frolic is that you still get a lot of the pop and hiss from the record. Some people shy away from this but I actually think that it adds to the experience and the authenticity of the recording. This compilation is all American rural music that you would have heard at square dances, fiddling competitions and many other places. Artist's names are quite original and worth a laugh too: Freen's Barn Dance Band, Fiddlin' Powers & Family (Austin wasn't born yet), Binkley Brothers Dixie Clodhoppers, Seven Foot Dilly and his Dill Pickles, and Pigmeat Pete & Catjuice Charlie are just some of the obscure artists that are on Cornshucker's Frolic. This is roots music at it's finest and this package comes with your own free ho-down instructions (not really). It does have some pretty interesting liner notes though, to peruse while you get your fill of fiddling music.
