I was prepared to be disappointed about Fire The Cannons, the debut album from Jet Lag Gemini. The message boards had hyped the release like crazy. My initial opinion of them upon listening to "Run This City," I found them to be a little bit more creative than the rest of the members of their genre. A innovative twist on what their colleagues do: a quick burst of energy with a catchy chorus of piss poor lyrics ("Because I run this city, run this city right and gritty") but unlike their peers, they dive into some bizarre guitar solo to demonstrate their impressive skills. What the hell is going here? I was inclined to investigate, so I ordered this record.

Two things to be noted about this: the lyrics can be one of two things--either good or bad. There is absolutely no inbetween. Secondly, Jet Lag Gemini has the guitar skills that Avenged Sevenfold wish they could achieve when they pretend to do impressive guitar solos but they just end up emitting bullshit power chords. Thing number one can be verified by listening to the bad lyrics of "Doctor, Please!" and then the decent ones of "The Bad Apples." Thing number two is exemplified in "Fit To Be Tied."

Needless to say upon first listen, I was utterly blown away. Never before has a pop-punk album had such stunning instrumentation. This isn\'t supposed to occur. I\'m supposed to be listening to a rehashed version of a previous artist with paraphrased catchy choruses. Jet Lag Gemi and its, Fire The Cannons, are genre-definers, they will set the course of this genre for years to come because sadly nothing like this has been before. Bands previous thought they could get by with the simplistic nature they had embraced forever but what the real problem was that they were afraid to make this album--it\'s a risk. Down the red alert, Jet Lag Gemini is a success.

Really? This was not that good.I got it stoked expecting some fresh shit. It is okay. The guitars are crazy for a pop-punk outfit. Run this city got old quick though. The lyrics aren't nearly good enough for them to be one of the elite.

Checked out their myspace songs, and you're absolutely right. I have to get a copy of this album ASAP.

I'm going to comment this so it gets attention in our little comment bar--because that's what this band needs--attention. What a ground breaking album.
