This debut album from former Crackerbash and Jr. High frontman Sean Croghan seems to have all the critics raving. What is From Burnt Orange to Midnight Blue all about then? It’s a super personal look at what could be considered autobiographical songs that reach into the darkest depths of Sean’s past and present. You know, the sort of songs that contain all the pain and hurt as well as the good times. Croghan has proven himself as not only a strong songwriter but a fantastic arranger too. It really has the same feel to it as say an Elvis Costello album or a Buffalo Tom album. The album’s opening track, “Gweneveire sounds like a perfect cross between the aforementioned two bands. It is lonely and forlorn and hardly contains a ray of light as he is splitting with this girl. He picks up the pace a bit with the distorted guitar sound of “Cupid’s Credit Card. No matter if he is using his strong yet faltering regular voice or his falsetto, Sean can hold the listener through the entire album. Sean Croghan has created a very nice indie rock album that will definitely find a place in many indie fans hearts. It should also find its way onto a few top ten lists for the year.
