Another street punk band on Tim Armstrong’s Hellcat Records, Societys Parasites attack their songs with a political edge that rises above the usual hate-the-government sentiment of their genre. The songs are similar to those of The Casualties, The Unseen, Static Thought, and a multitude of other Hellcat bands, but manage to sound…well, better. With such key tracks as “In the City” “Parasites,” and “Who’s On Your Side,” I’m not sure if it’s the vocal style, the writing, the song structure, the production values, or just the musicianship, but this self titled album displays an overall higher quality of talent than is found in much of punk rock today. There’s not a whole lot more I can say, except that this band is perfect for anybody looking for a refreshing new source of punk rock. Suffice it to say, Societys Parasites have a bright future in the scene. Go check ‘em out.
