I had heard a lot about Chore and was under the impression that they were just a punk band from Ontario. Well, I was right about one thing, they are from Ontario. They are everything that isn’t punk though. The Coastaline Fire is their third album and one fine accomplishment too. Chore is a four piece that sounds like a sonic assault but in a mature and expansive way. Let me try to explain what I hear in Chore. They take influences diverse as Tool and fellow Canadian’s Voivod and inject some of the new metal sounds of Deftones and emo rockers Sunny Day Real Estate. I can’t really say that they sound like any band in particular though because their diversity is extreme. It’s like a metal band with scenery. It’s like At The Drive-In (speaking of which, Chore chose Alex Newport to produce the album) at central park on a day pass. You can tell that Chore has spent quite a bit of time thinking out this album in all it’s glorious details. The Coastaline Fire is an almost perfect heavy rock album from a maturing band trying to figure itself out. Chore will please a lot of new fans with it.
