Demons - Evocation
While Detroit is more known for bone-crushing rock, it has also entered history as the home of some of the most vicious techno and house on the planet. This is the world we enter when we listen to Demons, a side project by Wolf Eyes’ Nate Young and Steve Kennedy from Werewolves that grows to ever more monstrous proportions with this debut full-length release. Mixing noise with gut-pounding bass and synth, tracks like “Pre-Existence” and “Firewalk” are truly terrifying, as hell-broken loose soundtrack to getting run over by a tank, its driver laughing his ass off. Brutal is not he word; Evocation is catastrophic noise, guaranteed to be recalled some time in the future when you are living in your own apocalyptic post-Katrina nightmare. This is the kind of transgressive, morally outraged burst of power that Nurse with Wound and even Wolf Eyes have aspired to; neither reach the heights and power of this tirade.
