James "Super Chicken" Johnson got his name from his ability to make his guitar cluck like a chicken which you don't get quite as much of as his debut album, Blues Come Home to Roost. This album is a bit different than the regular Fat Possum roster being quite a bit cleaner, I would almost call it R&B rather than straight up blues. The only connection with labelmates like RL Burnside would be his Mississippi heritage. He is the nephew of none other than Big Jack Johnson which says a lot about where he gets his talents. Super Chikan manages to pull off all sorts of styles too. Not just smooth R&B but some great guitar solos and really fun blues songs. Jon Spencer could learn from Mr. Johnson
