Quick, name your favorite Israeli Black Metal band! Sounds as jarring as asking for your favorite Evangelical porn star. Yet here is Tangorodrim, a truly large and heavily dark band from Israel, who deliver the goods with a ragged sense of urgency that sets them above the usual BM fare. And really, where else should Black Metal represent, than in a place fragile with war and stress.
With the band's sophomore release, Justus Ex Fide Vivit, there is a sweet punk anger added to the mix of songs like “When The Heirs of The Horned Shamelessly Attack” and “The Wolves Are Coming” that compensate for some occasional lyric lapses into familiar satanic territory.
You get the sense that Tangorodim know about real horror first hand, not from your local Goth clothier. This gives their music an edge that, evident in the punk edge, but also in the solos, which stretch out in more risky ways than you hear from the genre. “No Light” is as sludgy and raw as any Black dirge I’ve heard. “Justus Ex Fide Vivit” is a fast and quick blur of brutal greatness.
