Emanuel - Black Earth Tiger
Black Earth Tiger is the sophomore record by Emanuel, released on Vagrant Records. The record is a follow up to the groundbreaking debut album, Soundtrack to A Headrush, which was released in 2005. Emanuel had always consisted of a hard rock sound with a little bit of screaming incorporated within the music, but the release of Black Earth Tiger took it a whole jump forward. The music seems to be more thought out, and the album seems to have more of a darker/hateful feel to it. Cottonmouth is a perfect example for this, the song makes references of feeling helpless over and over again and then eventually giving up hope. Anathamatics is a harder song for the album, the lyrics are brilliant for this song and the chorus is amazing. "Hold back your hair, you have this curse on your sleeve, but you wear it so well."
Scenotaph is a more aggressive song with even more aggressive lyrics. "Spread your legs, and let's f*ck the world, this is war." I think thats almost as agressive as Emanuel can get, lyrically. The music to this song sounds something much of, dare I say, Deftones. Year of the Pig reminds me of something that Glassjaw would try to accomplish. There is a lot of distortion and very interesting bass sounds which is a glassjaw-esque style. My top ranked tracks on this album are defintely Scenotaph and Year of the Pig. If you want to hear something different and like the harder side of music, then check out Black Earth Tiger by Emanuel.
