Band name, wtf?

The Number Twelve Looks Like You are band plagued with a bad name choice that will probably tarnish their rise for just about forever. It's a pity, because when a band releases albums like Mongrel, you deserve to be media luminaries. From the opening calcuted wild that is  "Imagine Nation Express" to the in-your-face end that is "The Try (thank you)," you will be to busy trying to get used to the sound of the previous track to be able to wrap your head around the next track. Meanwhile you still trying to connect how this is the same band that did the "My Sharona" cover, because aside from the band name, the sound doesn't seem to be a decent correlation.

Sensei say wha?

"Imagine Nation Express" is lyrically all over the place ("Smell the dick!/On the kid!") and the music is its dance partner. Unfortunately, the dance they are performing is the Seizure, where you basically convulse wildly because of the insanity blasting from their instruments. "El Pinata De La Muerte" makes a mention of WMD, and discusses how these will somehow make their mother proud. The Number Twelve isn't a lyric, listen-to-me-and-be-moved band, clearly. The point of Mongrel is to insanely bombard the listener with about 40 minutes of cascading drums, complex guitar works, and intense roaring. While "Grandfather" starts off like it will be peaceful, it's clearly a well-played misconception. You are greeted with shrill vocals and all the sudden AH! guitars and then AH! back to calculated misleading strummings and then AH! guitar crash! I cannot think of exact musical terminiology, but I think it would be appropriate to summarize this insanely fucking good.

They got their name from an episode of the twilight zone, The Number 12 Looks Just Like You, where some time in the future everyone undergoes a transformation and they pick a numbered model to look like. This chick decides she doesn't want to and everyone looks the same. It's a weird episode, and actually pretty fitting for the themes of their music.

i can't believe how big these guys got. they started playing in my town, pretty much, where kids walked around with their shirts that had flambouyantly bright "12"s plastered on them. wish i hopped on that bandwagon then; too late for me to care now, though.
