Trelldom - "tif Minne..."
Trelldom is a side project by Gorgoroth signer Gaahl; he recorded with this band about ten years ago, and I guess it is time for some more mayhem. And mayhem is certainly what is for sale on “Tif Minne…” You know the drill: brutally heavy and deadly-serious pounding, Norwegian style. Relentless from beginning to end, with enough of a touch of evil to satisfy the suicidal, and enough bronto-riffs to keep the shredders happy.
“By My Will” and “Fra Mitt Gimie” are ridiculously heavy and piercing, and Gahhl does his best Linda Blair throughout. For all the notice and righteous fame of Scandanavian metal, it never gets old. You would think that metal that takes itself seriously as a threat would descend into parody by now. Nope. Black Metal has dug in for the long apocalyptic haul, and this band, whenever it chooses to record, is a choice slab in the monolith of Dark North offertory. Check out the violin (!) on the closing track for proof that strings can be used in metal to chilling effect; that ain’t no Metallica therapy homework!
