It's hard to pin labels on Cocorosie, that's for sure. Their look and whatever the hell they use for inspiration, all the things that make up their presence as a duo confuses me, to be honest. But what they do well is sad little songs off-set with eclectic and curious lyrics. Both have lovely voices, but whichever sounds more young and Mirah-esque is the true talent. This album is a strange listen, but the more you hear of songs like "By Your Side", "Jesus Loves Me", "Good Friday", "Tahiti Rain Song" and "Butterschotch", the more you fall in love with them. All you have to do is get around the strangeness (or dive into it, your call).
