Braid - Frame & Canvas
Braid is one of those heavier emo / post-hardcore bands that were short-lived but in their brief time they managed to touch many people. Frame & Canvas was Braid’s best album by far. If you are unfamiliar with Braid you will be comforted to know that if you like Jawbox or that sort of style you will fully enjoy them. Braid plays rock with complicated rhythms and strange time changes but they manage to maintain a melody over top of the whole thing. Frame & Canvas is like a mature Jawbox that would have gone through a few more trials and tribulations. The way Braid goes from a quiet whisper with single notes being picked out on guitar to a cacophonous roar really shows the talent that they have. It’s not surprising at all that Jawbox singer J. Robbins produced this masterpiece. Watch for some of the members new band Hey Mercedes.
