Let's start off by saying that Billy Mahonie is a fictional boy created by the imagination of two Brits. The band took it's form in 1997 after being overly impressed with the whole "post-rock" thing that was going on. Big Dig is their debut and it is as good as anything coming out of Chicago today. Completely instrumental, their sound is that wall of guitar sound mixed with a gentle rhythmic hush that keeps the beat going. At times quite loud and then soft and beautiful right around the bend. The Big Dig should gain them the recognition they deserve on our American shores.
